Dr. Albert Ulrich Gerhard is a beekeeper, tending to the insect integral to the survival of every living being. He currently runs about 30 hives in his apiary, pulling around one and a half tons of honey every season.
Born in Germany in the late 60s and being UK based since the 90s, Uli’s PhD in organic chemistry fed into his childhood love of bees, and he now makes time to educate and teach children in his local schools about bees.
Often referred to as the crazy German because he shuns the use of protective clothing, Uli has a rather unconventional style of beekeeping, but what he doesn’t know about bees isn’t worth knowing.
This is a fascinating podcast - it's the bee's knees...
